mv BRAKE (IMO 5225904) scrapyard vessel ?
« on: June 20, 2015, 05:55:12 PM »
Hello,
I was in Cephalonia a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I couldn't obtain a full photograph as she was tucked away between mv ILION and the quayside but it looks like mv BRAKE looking rather worse for wear.

Regards,

Thanks for bringing this lovely vessel back to our attention MattyBoy. I only saw her once here at Hamburg and that was 6 years ago. I was wondering what had become of her...

By the way, as we're talking veteran coasters. Does anyone have some info about Hammelwarden (IMO 5141342)?

I've read that she was abandoned by her crew (why?) in the Atlantic somewhere off the coast of Western Sahara and presumably foundered. Equasis still gives her status as "in service/Commission".  Sounds like the script for a ghost ship-movie ???

Cheers,
Jens

TIGHNABRUAICH ex-BRAKE ex-MARLIES seems to be just mouldering away.  Or is that cephalonia site used for demolition.
Why her Beirut owners chose an unpronouncable name of a small Scottish village is anybody's guess.

Re HAMMELWARDEN, who are or were BV Shallow Shipping, Harlingen?  All three of the ships currently still listed to them wandered off in about 2012/13 - the other two are VEST (IMO 5153395) and TINA (IMO 5120908), though the latter has a possibly phantom recent AIS report from Emden.
Nothing since 2012: http://www.odin.tc/news/read.asp?articleID=1284

Hi David,

it's a pity that a lot of these small coasters simply drop out of sight, often never to be seen again and no official records exist stating what happened to them :(

I just used Google Earth (the image used in the app had copyright 2015), no trace of Tina where she should have been according to the AIS signal... The most recent photo of her is by the late J

The latest AIS-Signal I have from Hammelwarden was:
Bight of Benin  2014-05-24 00:48 CEST

From Tina in Emden Region:  2014-10-06 20:43 CEST
