End of HSS
« on: February 04, 2015, 05:53:23 PM »

Stena line are no longer going to call at Dun Laoighre on their Dublin-Wales service.

So I guess the Stena Exploer's days are numbered.

Yes that seems to be the case.

The Stena Explorer is currently laid up in Holyhead and will soon be gone.

Stena foot passengers will have to make do with a single day crossing on Stena Nordica's bigger replacement - but to Dublin rather than Dun Laoghire. That's the rumour.

Stena Nordica out of action at the moment due to collision damage after recent storms.

 Yes Mike.
It's the end of a service going back something like 180 years!!!
Pity..I liked those HSS 1500 ships.
I like the idea when a company does something different.
These vessels were hugely interesting ships in many ways. Gas Turbines for a start.
It looks like the HSS Discovery in Venezula is still laid up so one wonders what'll happen to this Stena Explorer. The good news is fuel is cheap.
If it was ever going to get a new owner/ manager it would be now.
I would say that won't happen though.
We'll most likely not see their like again.

Truly amazing ships, the HSS 1500 type ferry. But they are indeed obsolete, and the withdrawal of the Stena Explorer is no big surprise. I wonder what will become of Stena's facility in Dun Laoghaire.
A final look at the interiors of Stena Explorer, pictures as of April 13th 2014.
