Collision in Persian Gulf
« on: March 26, 2006, 05:20:14 PM »
The Associated Press via Yahoo News (www.yahoo.com) is reporting a collision between U.S. Navy destroyer USS McCambell and an unamed oil tanker in the Persian Gulf.  The collision took place 30 miles southeast of the Iraq coast.  Two sailors and two crew from the tanker were injured.  Damage occurred to both ships but they were deemed to be seaworthy. There was no oil spillage from the tanker. The tanker was flagged with the tiny Pacific island country of Kiribati. The tanker was loaded with Iraq oil, the sale of which goes towards paying for "reconstruction". No further details were offered.

The tanker involved in the collision has been identified as the Rokya 1.  It reportedly has some degree of bow damage but the damage is not sufficient to require immediate repairs.  Damage to the destroyer was reported to be "cosmetic"  -- the damage to the captain's reputation will probably be more severe!
