She is (or was) IMO 7101449

Still a bit uncertain about the sequence, but looks like
1961 CREOLE SUE
196x HAIDA BRAVE
198x NORTHERN BRAVE
198x KALA LOA'A
1991 SEA BLAZER
1995 SOLUTION
2000 continued existence in doubt

Kyle Stubbs:
Hi David,

To update your list, I can confirm from Merchant Vessels of the United States that she was still listed as CREOLE SUE, under the ownership of Tugboat Inc AL of Mobile at least as late as 1979.

Kind Regards,
Kyle

This was my response from Bob Beegle:

Robert -
Dave Updike's company was Northwest Towing & Salvage.
First glance thru our database immediately came up with the ex-name "Haida Brave", but the 1966 built ex-"Haida Brave" later renamed "Commodore Straits" and now sailing as the "Chaulk Determination" in Eastern Canada vs. the tug in your photo.  Digging through the database a bit more I finally recognized the photo and came up with a couple more shots, although I never knew that Dave owned her or that she was once also known as the "Haida Brave".   We first ran across her in 1985 when Zidell owned her and she was in Portland, Oregon and we sold her in 1994 to an Alaskan by the name of Tom Horton.

We did have some photos of her in various configurations - the first being the as the "Creole Sue" when she was still in the Gulf of Mexico, then as the "Sea Blazer" when owned by Zidell and we sold her into Alaska and then as the "Solution".  Also have a couple of spec sheets and old surveys. She no longer shows up as a documented vessel in the U.S. Coast Guard, so probably no longer around.  The b&w photo of her as the "Haida Brave" looks like it was taken around the same time as your photo with the "Polar Sea" in the background. That photo is from Mark Freeman's website.  The photos as the "Creole Sue" are from Tom Mowbray's files (old-time tug broker out of New York) when he had her listed for sale in the 70s.  When he retired, he shipped boxes and boxes of files to us which we have barely managed to touch and still have plans to sort through and digitize all the information.  The b&w Xeroxed photo as the "Sea Blazer" are from Marcon's files which I took when we initially listed her for sale in 1985.  Somewhere I still have the color photos and negatives around of her, but - buried deep.  Each one looks slightly different and shows the various owner's modifications, but are of the same vessel and had the same U.S. Coast Guard official number - plus can see a few details as to the pilothouse windows, ports, bow shape, etc. which remain.

The photo taken by my Dad was incorrectly marked by me. I have since changed it to "Haida Brave"
