Scot Pioneer and Svitzer Morag
« on: April 10, 2014, 11:20:15 AM »
Hello everyone,

I was in Rochester (UK) earlier and I saw the Scot Pioneer being escorted down the River Medway by the Sheerness based Svitzer tug Svitzer Morag.

Does anyone have any info why the tug was needed as most ships that far down river do not require tug assistance.

Best regards

Trev

Most of the times when something like that is done,,then
a) they had a problem before departure,, engine and/or other mechanical, like rudder etc
b) they are known for problems, means a history for it, like black outs before for example

on the Mississippi river I saw same with another ship and asked the pilot,,that bulker had
two break downs on the river the last 3 visits and is now required for the next 3 visits to have escorts.  Pretty expensive matter btw

NOW!!!,,,if we could get rid of the sailors,,how safe shipping would be !!!!!!!!

She arrived from the Sunk last night and anchored in the Little Nore.As you say Trev they don't
normally take a tug.As Ted says maybe mechanical problem, she is fitted with bow thruster and
would need it where she births.
