Thanks info.

Which other same vessel as the Bavaria en Borussia were active during 1980/85 with Hapag Lloyd.?

I can not remember the names anymore but I still know these ships were already in the '80s a bit old.
They sailed with a German officers en Indonesian crewmembers mainly to Indonesia and Manaus in Brasil.

Jan,

Westfalia was engaged in the South-America West Coast Service, all other "-ia" vessels were in Indonesia Trade. The vessel which has gone up the Amazonas was perhaps "Heidelberg", one of 10 "West-India" Vessels. In the early 80s only "Heidelberg", "Hannover" and "Goslar/ex Frankfurt" were left with Hapag-Lloyd, if I remember correctly. It well may be that we met in Amsterdam in 1981 when I was there with "Goslar" or 1980 with "Borussia"  ;)

Best Regards
Uwe

That's correct the Heidelberg was one of the ships who were often in Amsterdam with Muller & Co AG and CTA, next to Borussia, Bavaria, Thuringia etc.

I can remember a German radio-operator (complete in kaki out-fit) who told us very interestign stories about the sailing operation with the Hapag ships on the Amazons towards Manuas.
By the way I found out that we also handled oftern the Friesenstein, Schwalbenstein in AMS. They also sailed to S/A mainly to Antofagasta, Callao, Valparaiso and other far away/exotic places.

These ships were the last of the bulk express ships. Far more interesing then then the containership. Sadly everything is scrapped by now.

Danke
