Algoma is a leading Canadian shipping company, owning and operating the largest Canadian flag fleet of dry-bulk carriers and product tankers operating on the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence Waterway. Built in China, the ALGOMA EQUINOX is the the new "Laker", operated by Algoma, built in China. Sam Garmulewicz from the British Columbia Institute of Technology reports as follows: "Because the Equinox was designed and built for domestic use on the great lakes and in the St. Lawrence waterway, she required some temporary structural modifications for her trip across the pacific and up the East Coast of North America. Running along her Port and Starboard sides on the Cargo Deck are massive pieces of high tensile steel called DVS
