At 10.00AM today Independent was towed out of Shoreham Harbour by the Netherlands registered Tug Barracuda, the latter had arrived in Shoreham from Terneuzen the previous morning on 13 May 2014.

Whilst Independents AIS has been broadcasting this morning it has subsequently been switched off. The destination is Ghent and it is rumoured that the vessel is going for scrap, although other stories are that the ship has been sold on, and if anyone has any better intelligence I am sure we would all like to know!

This I understand is the third attempt at getting Independent out of Shoreham, and now brings closure to all the vessels owned by Independent Shipping.

In the meantime Dudmans continues to receive aggregates, stone and sand, March and April 2014 saw 9 shipments discharged, at Penney's and Turberville Wharves.

The dredger Thames was sold recently and sailed for Paira in Cape Verde island as has been stated, which I understand is just off of Senegal. Leaving Ghent on 31 July 2014 she now has a new owner. A WSS SCB & Solent MSoc visit to Ghent in early September 2013 confirmed that Thames and Cementina were both in situ. Recent reports in March/April 2014 stated that only Thames was in situ for sale, with Cementina having been recycled.

This now brings closure to the former fleet of Independent Shipping Company, with 3 of them scrapped (or recycled): Shoreham, Cementina and Independent. Only Torrent (Now Eems Delta) and the dredger Thames, are working with new owners.
