Cygnus Leader is NUC
« on: August 10, 2014, 01:22:27 PM »
Cygnus Leader (IMO number: 9381249, MMSI: 372747000), a vehicles carrier, is apparently drifting about 350 km off Boston, Massachusetts, USA, with the status of "Not Under Command".

VesselFinder shows that she was headed in (Destination: BOSTON) but 'bounced' off the gray line (contiguous zone?) off Nauset, Cape Cod, Massachusetts; that is, she steamed up to the gray line, followed it north a bit, and then sheered off to the northeast, where she is now NUC, according to MarineTraffic.

Any info?

Thanks
Gary

99.9% just waiting for her slot in the port.

Around here in Busan, very recently I've seen the world's largest container vessel waiting near the pilot boarding zone (or OPL, I'm not sure), with the same status, "NUC". :)

Hi!
Every vessel that stays adrift is not under command after switching off her main engine - e.g. waiting for a berth in the next port. If you do so, your obliged to switch on the "Not under Command"-lights/signals and set your AIS accordingly. So there is nothing special about this matter insofar.
Brgds,
Stefan
