Just a quick query..

Hi,

I am new to the art of Ship Spotting and was wondering if you could answer a question for me.

I am currently off work sick and just got into this in the last few days, can 'just' see the sea from my house but an tracking Norfolk Express which should be off Berry Head but doesnt seem to be sitting still, but going back and forth between Torbay and Lyme Regis.

Firstly, why do these ships do this and secondly, is there a term for such a thing??

What's the weather and sea state like down there ?

She could just be 'dodging' which is a term used when the weather does not allow the ship to go safely to anchor.

Cheers for the quick reply, that is what I thought. It was a bit windy last night but apart from that seems relatively calm, although I haven't been to the coast to see what the sea state is like.

As I said at the beginning I only recently downloaded MT app and am quite amazed at the frequency that larger ships come close here.

Yet another hobby I could use my camera for!!

AIS info states vsl destination as Brixham anchorage, as Dan says, probably waiting for the weather to abate before anchoring, vsl is probably waiting for orders...

Norfolk Express is scheduled to arrived at Southampton Container Terminal at 19.00hrs Friday.  So I guess she is just killing time, its either there or at the Nab Anchorage.  She won't get in early as we already have NYK Hercules waiting at the Nab for a berth.
