Just added a short news video about MMM's arrival at Rotterdam . .

On the Video page, and on Shipping TV, of course.

Hello All

I am new in this forum, I live in Rotterdam. Unfortunately I work Monday to Friday, so I could not join. However, I would like to see the ships while they are docked. Is there a good viewpoint where you can take a nice photo of these three ships during the weekend? When are they departing?

and BTW, how do I get (which directions) to the Maasmond? Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Servando

You live in Rotterdam? Hm funny. Bad luck, The Maersk as already gone.
TI Europe lies in the Calandkanaal, visible from the Noordzeeweg, she'll be here for quiet some time. Vale Rio de Janeiro lies in the Mississippiehaven and is visible from the Beerweg. Slag Maasmond can be found at the end of the Maasvlakteweg. All these places can be found on Google maps.

Hello Fred

Thanks for your detailed answer. Yes, I live in Rotterdam. But, I just move in May and I got to know about the maersk by local news on friday morning. I am very new in shipspotting, I mostly do truck and bus spotting. I also find ships interesting and that's why I finally decided to join. I must say that job/friends consume 90% of my time, but it is nice to go spotting occasionally.

I tried to check in google maps if you could see the missisipihaven from Europaweg, but it was impossible. My question came because I did not wanted to make the bike journey all the way to the port to realize that you could not actually see the ships. I don't have a car. Thus, your information is very useful, thanks once more.

Vale Rio de Janerio departs today, is it not?

Kind regards

Servando

To my info Vale is leaving tomorrow. No idea where she's going, because usually it takes a whole week to empty this big one.
Another nice spot for shipspotting is the end of the Markweg, then to the right, pass the pilots and left, right and yes you may enter this road.
If you live in Rotterdam it's a long ride by bike :-)

Cheers Fred

Hi Serva.

You can take a train from central station to Maassluis, walk to the ferry for Rozenburg and cross the river. From there you have a lot of possibilities to view the ships. Alternatively, travel to Hoek of Holland and walk from the station to the waferfront.
From there you have another good view of the traffic. Also you can take the fast ferry to the Rozenburg Landtong from where you can see the Europoort area. The ferry can also take you to the Maasvlakte. Remember that all venues take a brisk walk. Therefore the Dutch prefer their bicycles....
If you visit the site of the Port of Rotterdam and look at the maps all above will be clear.

Rgds,
Robert

Hello All

Thanks for your nice replies. This is very valuable information for me. I will take all your advices and go out there for some shipspotting soon.Unfortunatelly I was not able to catch the Vale this time, but hopefully she will come soon.

I have done the bike trip to Hoek van Holland. It is indeed a long bike ride, but it is made easy by the train and ferries network. I will post some of those pictures soon.

And indeed, the beer round is pending.

Kind regards

Servando

The Vale Rio de Janeiro is still in Rotterdam. Maybe you can catch her when she leaves, maybe this coming weekend. You can check her location on: http://marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx?mmsi=566173000&centerx=4.051872&centery=51.93697&zoom=10&type_color=7

She's in the Mississippiehaven.

Cheers Fred

So, TI EUROPE is on the road at last, destination Singapore, ETA 10th October. It has been a mammoth task loading from 3 or 4 inland tankers a day. They seem to have originated from every refinery or storage depot in the Rotterdam area. Almost as if it was being loaded as the refined product was being produced, effectively using it as a floating storage facility. Is this a normal way of operating in Rotterdam?
Does anyone know what the actual cargo is, and how heavily she is loaded?
