There's a new Shipping TV news video on the videos page (and on Shipping TV, of course) dealing with the effects of the introduction of Triple-E ships into the AE10 rotation, and the cascade of larger ships going down into lower-capacity routes around the world.
The effects downstream will be fascinating - AE10 is pretty busy already, and the crane limits on its ports of call mean that the Triple-E's usually won't carry more than 14,000 TEU, against their 18,000 max, so there won't be big changes.
Meanwhile, on AE2, calling on the UK at Felixstowe, the 8,000 TEU ships will be replaced by 13,000 TEU vessels . . will Maersk drive them around less laden that the present ships already are, or will they start a price war on AE2 destinations to build up cargo levels on the larger vessels? Interesting times ahead!
I also had an email from someone whose information I rate, saying that they believe that 2?,000 TEU ships will be on order by the end of the year . . won't that be fun!
