Help, spreading ashes
« on: May 31, 2013, 04:17:33 PM »
Hi

My father recently passed away. He used to be a 2nd office for Ellerman City Line and was on a number of ships from City of Chester, Rippon and others...

He asked that his ashes be spread at sea.

Im just not so sure if this is legal and if so how to go about this other than getting on a cross channel ferry etc...

has anyone any experience of this or guidance?

Thanks in advance
Simon

Simon,

I suggest that you contact the relevant authorities. This is a ship spotting enthusiasts forum so I'm not sure how anyone here can help you.

Good luck

Brgds

Simon,
It depends on where you live.
I have seen Red Funnel ferries pause on their run between Southampton and Cowes to do just that, complete with a short service.

Simon,
It is perfectly legal to scatter ashes at sea and a good bet may be your local RNLI station. If they can't help you they'll probably be able to put you in touch with someone who can.

Hi Simon,

I'd suggest going speak to either the RNLI (you could try e-mailing them) or maybe a ferry company.

Enough torque to restart a dead planet! OOW with an unlimited CoC looking for work. :)

I personally have 'scattered' ashes when I was a crewman with the RNLI back in the late 70's early 80's, not sure if they still do it.
Blistering barnacles...
