Home for retired ships?
« on: February 02, 2006, 03:36:09 PM »
Once again Norway is 'up for sale'. How about a 'home for retired ships'? A museum somewhere where ships can be preserved, looked after and enjoyed by people around the world. Fantasy - I guess so, but who knows - in the future, (before it's too late).
regards Glencairn :-) :pint:

A Home for retired Ships?? Why not, you have Flight museums..Car museums, so why not also for ships in real size and shape, there are lot of great Liners out there who deserve a better future than a scrapyard.

A good idea, indeed...

However, I imagine how would it be to visit such museum... To visit a Fligh or Car Museum is complicated [people have to walk lond distances... ] imagine it on a ship... Perhaps a small car drive then throug the otside os the ship... and people can only watch...  :-(

I suggest start creating more hotels, like Queen Mary or Gil Eannes [in Viana do Castelo, Portugal]... This way, they would still be usefull, wich doesn't happen in a museum, where it lays "empty" for years...

Regards! :-D

It is very interesting idea, but I think - very expensive.
But there are some ships, which are the museum now.
For example Polish Sołdek, Błyskawica, Dar Pomorza.

MJK.
