By the way: The late Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller was born on 13 July 1913 at Hellerup, just outside Copenhagen.

I would not at all be surprised if ML registered the ship at Hellerup and tried to christen her on 13 July 2013, Mr Møller's 100th birthday, at Copenhagen. If the carrier deploys the ship to the AE10, which calls at Goteborg, Aarhus and Gdynia anyway, it could match very nicely.

Assuming that delivery takes place contractually 1st of June (just a guess) > bingo!

Since I am sure Maersk's new social media people read along here: C'mon Maersk you can do it :-) I'd even go to Copenhagen to see that on the condition that Maersk provides me with a free glass of bubbly in late Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller's honour.

jan_t: excellent guessing, I must say :-)
In case you join the party, I shall be there as well. And after the few glasses of "bubbly" sponsored by Maersk, I shall sponsor a - to be decided - number of cold Carlsberg beers
at some nearby humble "Wirtshaus" while we are discussing the future of containershipping.

Jan, Niels,

If this is the case count me in!!   maybe Maersk would sponsor a Shipspotting.com gathering to celebrate the first triple E and Maersk McKinney Moller's 100th birthday!!

toughest decision...............Carlsberg or bubbly!!

^^^refering to a deleted post

Pls be more specific here. What do you mean by 'the second'?

The second in order of hull numbers?

The second in order of originally contractual delivery dates at the time of order?

The second in order of actual (possibly revised) delivery dates at the time of delivery?

The second in order of IMO number assigned?

I am not saying you are wrong, but it would surprise me. Why would ML bother to change the name order? Also: why would they bother to rename the present A.P. MOLLER as soon as late this month?

^^referring to a deleted post As you can see in my original post, the 'second' name was the only one *not* confirmed yet. So there may have been a change.

To be precise: MARY MAERSK is the name of hull DSME  4252, the third hull. It is however entirely possible that 4252 is handed over before 4251. Such 'irregularities' happen all the time.

On top of that many carriers try and defer newbuildings to avoid an overcapacity bloodbath.

interested that the triple E may phase into AE10 service which does not call UK. Shame as was hoping to catch them at Felixstowe :(

The current "word on the street" at the Port of Felixstowe is that neither Triple-E nor E class vessels will be coming into Felixstowe in the foreseeable future. However. I wouldn't be totally shocked to find one of either coming into London Gateway when they're up and running, at least on a test basis.

I had the impression that the E class were pulled from here because they weren't worked fast enough, although its hard to get to the facts in this kind of instance.
