The first of Caledonian MacBrayne state-of-the-art 'green' diesel/electric hybrid ferries has been launched from Fergusons Shipbuilders in Port Glasgow on the lower River Clyde , the first launch from this yard in five years. The 'Hallaig' reached her natural element at around 1410hrs on December 17th 2012 after being launched by Scotland's Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. She named after the lost village on the island of Raasay and made famous in Scottish literature in the form of a poem.
