Mutiny on the Queen Mary 2
« on: January 22, 2006, 10:04:53 PM »
Further problems with the three prop QM2 with passengers revolting. Further details here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4637240.stm  Funny to think the old Mauretania undertook eight transatlantic crossing on only three props whilst waiting for a replacement.

If anything, this shows how tightly the ships schedule is planned. The beancounters world.
Anyone who is connected with shipping knows that a plan is usually good for about 5 minutes. There are so many variables out of anyones control.
I'll bet though that the ship is always when and where it is suppose to be.
Like the ship that caught an abandoned anchor in her hull, in the Deleware River channel and caused a fuel spill-channels sometimes aren't exactly what is on a chart.

QM2 travels to Rio at a reduced speed. She will have to be repaired sooner than later. Anyone know where?

Cunard has sure screwed up here. The right thing to do
was tell the passengers before they left Florida, not
after. And they should offer a FULL refund. This bad
press is gonna cost them WAY more than the refunds would
have....

Listening to news on the radio (26-1-06) passengers are to be offered full refunds. (Why did I not book on the cruise?)

I expect the ship will repaired in water in Florida. Will be interesting to see. You don't repair this stuff overnight. There is a lot of engineering involved and pre-planning. Easy to criticize a company and their Project Managers when the scope of work is not known.

If Qm2  is to be repaired on the east coast of America. That's going to be in a few months time. QM2 is supposed to be going to San Francisco and Hawaii before returning to Miami (the same route as outbound)
