Donidonuz,

In the December 2003 edition of Marine Modelling International magazine (page 10) is a good story about a guy Lorenzo Banci who completed a 1:100th scale (3,420 mm LOA - beam 520mm - model displacement 320 kgs) model of the Shell VLCC 'LUCINA' for the Naviga NS World Champs. It has good photos in colour on the internal construction and working features..ballast tanks, anchors etc. just what you want. It even has it's own fleet of VS tugs to handle this monster model.

I once had some general arrangement plans of a 70's built VLCC but not sure if I can locate them now. Maybe you could try asking technical dept. of a large tanker operator like Stena Bulk (Concordia) in Sweden, that have some nice vessels.

You could try to contact the publisher www.traplet.com in the UK for a back issue of the MMI magazine, if not let me know.

Simon

Hello Toni,

Plans of the supertankers "Mundaca" and "Latona" can be purchased at
www.vth.de
I haven't seen them so I can't say anything about the quality of the drawings, but they can be a start for your project.
As far as I know the company "Anker" made those plans. I don't know if the company still exists but if yes, they are from Denmark.
Graupner had plans of the Esso Berlin many years ago. They are from the 60'ies and on Ebay from time to time. The scale was 1:250. The plans show a nice old tanker but they are not very detailed. Also Graupner increased the depth a little bit to get the small model more stable.

I hope I could help you a little with those informations.
Kind Regards
Matt

Hi Toni,

Both Mundaca and Latona shipsmodel plans were produced in France and I know the author ... You will find herebelow links to a photo a Mundaca I took a while ago, and Lucina, a sistership to latona. Please note 8 vessels of the latest serie were built by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint Nazaire. Mundaca and her sisters were built in spain.

You will find interesting plans of VLCCS on the website of the shipowner Klaus Oldendorff.

The model of the Mundaca is the latest scratchbuild. I've always wanted a model of a VLCC but the number of kits available in 1:600 is extremely limited and no tanker models to this scale exist.

It makes for a very interesting comparison with my other 1/600 ships.
intresting tips..thanks for sharing..
