The last Tay launch
« on: May 23, 2012, 03:14:27 PM »
I know the last ship launched @ the Robb Caledon yard in Dundee went down the slipway in 1981, but despite an extensive search I can't find out her name, can anyone help?

According to the records I have Robb Caledon's last three vessels were delivered in 1983:

A.H. Paraggi 6/83
St. Catherine 6/83
St. Helen 11/83

Thanks \Phil, however I wonder if those vessels you list may have come from Robb's Edinburgh (Leith) yard which shut 2 years after the Tay yard in 1983. Do you know which yard those ships came from?

Attached are 2 photos showing the remains of the Robb Caledon yard in Dundee taken today, 31 years after the yards last launch.

Yes- Those vessels were built at Leith.

Sadly, the database I am using doesn't recognise the Dundee yard building any merchant ships post-1978. However, naval or fishing ships might have been built later, but we do not record those.

Thanks for looking. Its my understanding the Dundee yard built coasters, small cargo ships and dredgers upto its demise. I'll keep looking

The last ships built at the British Shipbuilders-operated, Robb Caledon yard at Dundee were the bulkers BYTOM and KOSCIERZYNA (Yard nos 576 and 577) for Polska Zegluga Morska
