places to photograph ships in the north of england
« on: February 19, 2012, 09:34:01 PM »
Hi Guys, could you tell me if there are any good vantage points to photograph ships in the north of England, I have visited Goole docks which seems very good, but not that busy, also Hull, but I am not sure where to go here because of security etc, I am thinking of a trip to Liverpool, is it worth travelling from Yorkshire? if any of you could help I would be very grateful

Hi JD

Your best bet is probably Teesport at South Gare - use the forum search facility to look up the Teeside Trip Report from 2007 (even though it is really named Teesside!) for instructions on how to get there.

You can use PD Ports shipping report to give you an idea of expected movements:

Have fun

At present at Hull there is a public footpath all the way along the river front from Queen Elizabeth dock to Hessle and beyond. There are parking areas at King George dock and on the Victoria dock estate to the east and at St Andrews Quay to the west. However there are plans to close the path along the front at Alexandra dock in the future. Unfortunately all the dock estates are out of bounds. For early morning movements (or non-sunny days) the small village of Paull east of Hull is a good spot.
