Has anyone else noticed how suddenly, it seems, that news of the Costa Concordia salvage et all has dried up?

You are right Bob but I was hoping to be able to follow this on line like some others in the past.
Smit Rotterdam has it on their website but no updates since last Friday!

Well, Stan, the mass media are no longer interested in the Concordia story (hence my comment). Also, I was a journalist for 20 years so my earlier comment was not completely without some insight.  
From some limited access with the specialist,shipping press (which would normally cost one lotsadosh,) I can tell you that someone high up has predicted that CONCORDIA will be refloated rather than scrapped in situ. It is also reported that due to unfavourable weather conditions, oil removal operations remain suspended as divers can't connect fuel pipes to the ship's hull. Further than that, I know nothing.

Well as they say its old news. They the media would be waiting for the next big event.I would love to follow the salvage although i think it will be a long process..I would think that SMIT would get the contract but that's only my guess..The Media will no doubt have something else to report..But a cruise ship with 4000 plus passangers and crew doesn't roll over everyday...

Latest news so far for Costa Concordia

2 million euros for survivors from Costa Concordia owners

The owners of the Costa Concordia cruise ship which crashed off the coast of Italy in January this year have paid around 2 million euros to some of the French passengers.

The money is 9,000 euros each for 235 passengers. Something else, 180 French nationals had days ago received 11,000 euros in order for dropping any legal action.

32 people were announced dead on the night of January 13 when the Costa Concordia cruise ship capsized with over 3,000 people on board.

Survivors suits owners of Costa Concordia, in the same time prosecutors in Italy are investigating 9 people plus the captain and 3 executives.

US based Titan and an Italian co. have secured the salvage contact.
The plan is to weld plates over the tear. Lighten the ship as much as possible,
Secure the bow so it won't slip backwards into davey jones locker
and righten Concordia with barges and cranes, from what I read on a Dutch site.   
They start next week...estimated time 1 year.

I notice from the Giglio webcam - http://www.giglionews.it/2010022440919/webcam/isola-del-giglio/webcam-giglio-porto-panoramica.html - that there seems to be some activity on the Costa Concordia.  At least some heavy equipment has arrived.
