ALGOWOOD : Is this normal?
« on: December 25, 2011, 08:39:05 PM »
Hi all,

I didn't notice it at first but when I saw the opening on the port side of the ALGOWOOD I thought to myself ... 'that is not something we see every day'.

Does anybody know what that opening is used for?

Is it normal for that opening to be open while in transit?

Thanks,

Steve Geronazzo

It's the access door to the engine room through which supplies and parts are loaded from the crane on deck just above the door. On warm days, it is opened to let the fresh air in the premises.
All lakers have this feature.

Hi Marc,

It makes sense since there is a crane above the opening. It must have been really hot in there since it was -15C outside.  ;)

Perhaps not for heat ventilation but to let out fumes of cleaning chemicals or welding fumes...?
