Ship scrapping on Ghana beach
« on: December 01, 2011, 09:50:35 AM »
Ship recently beached for scrapping illegally at Prampram Beach near Tema, Ghana.  Can anyone identify her?

Talk there of two or three previous demolitions recently.
One appears to be BEIRA (IMO 7913165)

This looks like one of our canadian built tankers built around 1972-75 like ENERCHEM AVANCE
(LADY ANNA) 7208601

Lady Anna (ex Enerchem Avance) was known to be trading W Africa regularly until late 2001 when movements mysteriously stopped. Re-appeared on movements lists in 2006 sailing from Lagos for unknown. No further information until status on Equasis updated to 'broken up' as of December 2010.

frtrfred gave a good clue.

Don't know about LADY ANNA, but perhaps one of following:

KEMEPADE ex-TRADEWIIND ISLAND ex-L ROCHETTE ex-GULF MACKENZIE (IMO 7414755).
Compare http://www.wellandcanal.ca/shiparc/gulf/mackenzie/mackenzie.htm
And KEMEPADE is the tanker that was allegedly recently stolen from from anchorage Lagos and turned up a few weeks later in Tema with the IMO number removed
http://www.tradenewswire.net/2011/maritime-intelligence-nimasa-discovers-missing-ship-in-ghana-ship-yard/#more-7884

or

SIR MICHAEL ex-TRADEWIND SPIRIT ex-J C PHILLIPS ex-GULF GATINEAU (IMO 7414743)
Listed as owned in Nigeria - no recent movements.

My money would be on the Sir Michael... ex J.C.Philips ex Gulf Gatineau.
Reasons:
1. The ventilation grille on the after side of the funnel did not appear on the Enerchem Avance. Both Gulf Mackenzie and Gulf Gatineau had those vents as built and throughout subsequent ownerships.
2. Only J.C.Phillips ex Gulf Gatineau had the exhaust stack extensions. They were added before 1992, and do not appear on sister. Her exhaust pipes barely showed above the top of the funnel.

Sir Michael's some structural and colour details on deck same with mystery wreck
her hull colour red on photo
wreck's hull colour looks like faded red
there is a deleted side writing starting with Z on wreck hull (?)
Sir Michael owned by Zenon petroleum
