Just curious to know if there was any word on if they are being scrapped or awaiting scrap or if anyone has found pictures of them being scrapped

I just picked up the paper and saw the article and picture on the front page. Still hard to believe they're being scrapped. They look surreal sitting on the beach side by side like that. Seems like yesterday I was just a kid going on board.

Pretty strange seeing robust, modern ferries like these being scrapped.

Sturdy vessels. When in service both sailed the North Atlantic, at times in conditions that would make your hair turn white.
So why would no ferry operator show any interest in adding them to their service? What would be the circumstances that made them only suitable for the breakers yard?

I think only one reason, they are very expensive to operate.

Indeed. Plus: vessels reportedly worn out from their hard work. Furthermore: bad maintenance, and inconvenient layout. Those things could be taken for granted in a good market, but alas, the market for used ferries is still really bad. The beach at Alang is currently full of "young" ferries which probably would have seen further employment in a different market: besides CARIBO and SMALLWOOD, there are currently: PRIDE OF TELEMARK (1983), EASTERN LIGHT (ex-SEAFRANCE RENOIR, 1981) and WESTERN LIGHT (ex-SEAFRANCE CEZANNE, 1980, completely rebuilt 1990).
