Another ship worthy of a mention is the Princess Fatima, originally built as Michael M in 1955 for Metcalf Motor Coasters. Has been seen in the Med still trading in the past couple of years and according ro EQUASIS it is still trading.

The coaster Sydfart is a strong contender for oldest ship in commercial service. Built as a steamer in 1879, re-engied to diesel and rebuilt in 1950's. She is still active and trading Baltic Sea ports, usually with grain.

Thanks for the additions everyone, some neat survivors being brougt up!

With the mention of INDEPENDENCE earlier, the 1938 tanker-gone-fish processor, thought I would bring up another golden oldie from the Seattle fishing fleet.

There are plaenty of 1920's and earlier coastal boats still going strong here in the Pacific Northwest, but the longliner CLIPPER EXPRESS (IMO: 5143871) bears the distinction of being a deep-sea fishing vessel of pre-war vintage, dating back to 1937.

AL KUWAIT would have to be one of the oldest large livestock vessels still operating:
