Wells-next-the-sea in the 1980's
« on: June 26, 2011, 12:44:34 PM »
As a child in the 1980's i spent many family holidays at Wells-Next-The-Sea in Norfolk. In them days the quay had a busy grain terminal with many coasters visiting.
Does anybody have any pictures/names of the coasters that visited ?
The one coaster i do remember seeing a lot was called 'TARO'. Where can i get a picture of this vessel in particular.

Regards
Steve
Why not take a look at my blog "SHIPS AND BOATS IN LONDON". It's my take on the river traffic in the City.

I usually visit Wells 2 or 3 times a year.Looking back through my records the last time I saw a ship at the grain silo there was in Feb 1989.It was the Egret,St Vincent flag,273grt,built 1967.There is one picture of it on this site.
Now all the activity is at the new harbour at the mouth of the channel just behind the lifeboat station. This is the base for the fast crew boats servicing the construction of the Sheringham Shoal wind turbine site. When I was last there in April there were six of them in,belonging to Holyhead Towing, Island Shipping and MPI Workboats.     Regards    Jim
