COPYRIGHT
« on: March 16, 2011, 12:11:26 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I would like to remind all members that upload pictures to the site of the importance of NOT violating copyright.

When uploading members must comply to the following rules.

Post only photographs for which you have copyright ownership.

Other peoples slides/negatives and photographs can only be used if the name and permission is stated in the description,no postcards, no pictures taken/scanned from books or magazines, no pictures taken from other websites.

I trust that everybody understands the importance of adhering to this as copyright litigation can be very expensive.

Importantly, it also damages the sites reputation.

In other words, please post only your own photos or photos with permission of the owner!

Kind regards
Derek

Hi Technical guy of this site,

Is it possible to create a tool, that the owner must give his/her permission before the picture can be dowloaded.

Also make downloading only possible for members that are logged in, and no longer for only guets.

Please understand me not wrong, I know there where in the past more topic about this, but now it's only for downloading, not for viewing!

Regards,
Freger65

Hi all,

As you know, I 'borrow' a few pictures for my blog when I am not able to 'capture' the ship myself. Will the proposal affect the way I download photo's.

I do contribute as often as I can, but it seems that most ships arrive and leave in the dark!

Kind regards, Brian, AKA The Pier Master.

Hi Pier Master, downloading photos with permission will not affect what you do and did.
As far as I know,
1) you are a member  ::)
2) you ask permission  ;)
It would be fantastic if downloading is only permitted when one is a member (it is free!). also if it only can be done after permission of the photographer, the whole copright soap opera is over. Besides for those who have the skills to get around the protection, but surely those will leave a digital trace.

To me it sounds like a great idea, that will give the site a more secure personallty.

just my opinion
brgds Stan

I think this discussion will be endless,
I hope that the technical people will do something to take care of this
But disable with the right mouse click will be easy to still copy the picture,
Some with the copyright like vesseltracker easy to remove with some photoshop.

Some exapmles they use my pics without permission

go to China steel team.

I think there is not much to do about the copyright,I must say i do not care if they use my pics there nothing you can do only sending alot of emails.

If , for instance , one posted an old black & white image of a vessel that is under 70 years old , how do you find out if it is still in copywrite?

Unfortunately the problem of copyright is an old question, for oldie shots
the easy thing could be write when the shot was taken and the name of fotographer or unknown
when we have no info !!!! this is my personally opinion

But if the fotographer is unkonow then it is much more easier to steal picture and present it as own or taken by (distant) relatives

What's the problem? If a photograph is not your own and you have not been granted permission to post it; if it has been scanned from a postcard or paper publication; if it has been taken from the internet: - DON'T POST IT!

Without any watermarks on the pic your point is useless
