ONEGO MONSOON (engine problems)
« on: January 29, 2011, 11:50:07 PM »
Quebec City : January 29, 2011

Pilot on-bord the ONEGO MONSOON called Maritime Traffic saying that the ship had engine problems at about 14H50. At the time of that call it was behind the icebreaker CCGS AMUNDSEN on its way to Montreal.

In the attached picture, we can see smoke coming up from the back of the ship near the waterline. Coincidence or proof of engine problems?

The black smoke coming from the funnel is normal cause the mate on watch probably asked the engineer to give him more revs hence, more power, so that the vessel would travel easily through the ice pack. Less smoke would show at the exhaust later when the correct air-fuel ratio is avhieved. Engineer point of view...

there was a ship talked about earlier this winter that had ice inside the water system and messed with the engine cooling so it was anchored over night while it was cleared up
  :-D  :-D
