In the afternoon Dec 10 2010 general cargo North Spirit requested immediate assistance 50 miles off Cape Ortegal, Bay of Biscay. Vessel was enroute Sweden Algier with timber, presumably cargo shifted and vessel dangerously listed. Spain authorities sent three helicopters, all 17 crew evacuated and transported to airport La Coruna, no casualities or injures. Crew 9 Ukranians, 8 Russians. North Spirit, IMO 8502042, dwt7148, built 1989, flag S-Vincent, manager Balthellas Chartering Athens. Vessel has Russian Registry Class, originally had a name Kapitan Goncharov.

The North Spirit was a sistervessel to the Ice Prince, which sank also after the deckcargo of timber had shifted in the English Channel few years ago. Also many other vessels of this type had suffered serious list when their deckcargo shifted in heavy seas.
