According to the Equasis web site Caribou is due for survey March 3, 2011 and Smallwood December 4, 2014.
However they do not meet SOLAS requirements and would not be allowed to trade as passenger ships internationally. As I understnad it they are licensed to operate within Canada as "non-convention passenger ships" because they only trade in domestic service (i.e. within Canada.)
They would certainly be allowed to sail from Canada to Europe on a delivery voyage, without passengers. You could also be fairly sure that whoever was contracted to deliver them would be able to reflag them to St.Vincent or some other more forgiving flag.
My take on the tender call to move them to Europe is that it is an interim measure to get around asbestos/PCB removal issues before sending them to the scrap yard or selling them.
As far as I know PCB and asbestos are not on board..
They want rid of them ,myself thinking ,because theres no theres harbour to lay up warm ..the Mediteraian is a decent spot as she wont freeze, get cold and condesate ..just shore power for pumps..air circulation..
I dont think ,,I hpoe not ,,shes to good for a breaker's yard..and if a breaker wants it ..they should heed the Finnjet experience ..the breaker lost money(at Alang India) ..Lloyds class hull in very good condition killed them isnt something that comes apat very easily ..hardend plate, more heat and harder to cut
