Diecast commercial vessels
« on: September 03, 2010, 02:42:32 AM »
As a former collector of 1:400 scale diecast airliners, close to a 1000 models, tough many were sold off when my financial fortunes went south last year. I am curious if such models exist in the commercial vessel world?

As I am sure that a few of you are familiar with the likes of Gemini Jets, Dragon Wings and Aeroclassics, and the stunning, highly detailed 1:400 airliner replicas, they produce. I would like to know if anything like this is currently being produced, in a similar scale with commercial vessels in mind,  i.e. container ships, tankers, cargo ships, ect.? I have scoured the net and came up with little, I must say. So far, I have only found ocean liners and military vessels that fit what I am looking for.

So any help and or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Thomas

The majority of metal ship models were made in 1:1250, some in 1:1200, which makes just a little difference. There are just a few ship models in a larger scale. Maybe you have luck with: www.classic-ship.de or www.galerie-maritim.de, both located in Northern Germany with English speaking stuff and shipment almost all over the world.

Best regards

Michael

Thanks for the links, Micheal. Unfortunately, the scales are a bit too large for my tastes. Perhaps I am spoiled by the highly detailed and accurate 1:400 (and even the 1:500) scaled airline models. I was hoping that someone had began producing ship models in theses smaller scales.

Thanks again,

Thomas

Hello, this is my first post although I have been "ship spotting" in real life for years.

I've sent Michael Brinkmann a pm but was wondering if anybody else could tell me what size in inches the Classic Ship Collection models are roughly(I guess it will vary from vessel to vessel)?.

The model that caught my eye was the crude tanker Tartar.

I might also ask if there is such a thing as a plastic kit of one of the modern massive ULCCs?.

Many thanks indeed.

Hi, yeh, thanks but what I was wondering about is what size the actual model is.  Would it be 10, 15 etc inches long?.

Cheers,

 :)

hello

the model of the "Tartar" is a little bit less than 10 inches.
But I can assure you that the model is "TOP"
