Laughable when you see that the web site in question has its own copyright marking - Copyright

Yes, ironic because the tug was originally designed by that firm. It's also ironic to those of us who have ever worked on ship design. Every drawing has a copyright notice on it. I had to explain to the VP of marketing and contracts at the shipyard that he shouldn't be using photos without permission. At least he saw the light when he saw the potential legal liability. Robert Allen has a good reputation and this may be a case where the marketing people need some education. Hopefully, an email to their marketing crowd might help clear this up. Ironic also that I tried to get a job there 20 years ago (has it been THAT long?).

One quick question to Tino. Were you working for or on contract with Moran or SMBC when you took these sea trial photos? and did you happen to share your images with the shipyard in Valencia?

The only reason I ask is that it is not unusual for a client to allow shipyards, designers and other major project contributers(engine and/or gearbox manuf) information and image permissions for the purpose of advertising/marketing. This is why I always had to be careful taking images at the shipyard as my posting images might violate corporate agreements between the shipyard and the client. That's why I was always pretty vague and circumspect with my descriptions. In this case, Robert Allan, no doubt would have an agreement with the Valencia Shipyard and with Moran/SMBC. Also, the naval architects would most probably be present or accept reports and photos of on going sea trials.

Of course, Tino could have just taken the images from the vessel he happened to be in and therefore a quick email to Robert Allan is in order.

Sorry for your trouble, Tino. Like I said, Robert Allan does have a pretty good reputation and I think a proper email from Derek as the webmaster representing Shipspotting would be very helpful. Also, as we all know, Derek can be very diplomatic and I'm sure it could get settled with ruffling any feathers. At the very least, a proper accreditation of the image. It is obviously the same image but it seems to have been edited to have SMBC's colors added to the superstructure. The sea trial image clearly shows the topsides partially painted. So someone worked on it.
