Hello,
My name is Thomas, and I reside in the Houston area. I am a former wire service photographer, now working the commercial and stock photo arena. I am also a former plane spotter (though I guess I am still one deep down inside), primarily the commercial jets, my haunt was of course IAH. However, shooting one CO 737 after another became very tiresome after some 10+ years of doing it over and over from almost every possible venue, never mind the increasing hassles with security (though it should be said that Houston Airports Systems, has been very accommodating to the local spotting community).
On a trip to Galveston a few years back, an unknown interest in Ship Spotting was born. While I may not be able to spot a bulk carrier from a tanker, approaching the Bolivar Roads, I am learning. I have amassed a decent collection of "ship pics", some of which can be see on my Flickr page, located in the Transportation set.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/79103259@N00/I hope to add some work to Shipspotting in the coming weeks. I hope to become more familiar with this fascinating sector of the transport industry, though these forums and it's participants. Any tips and or advice would be greatly appreciated.
A special thanks to Gabe, whom I met at Morgan's Point yesterday afternoon for hooking me up with this site. BTW, any Houston area ship spotters, be warned, Morgan's Point is being fenced off, though the area as you turn in will be left open.
Thanks,
Thomas
