Is the Italia (IMO  8806785) replacing another vessel or is she a new comer?

Italia is replacing MSC Palermo on the Capricorn Service.

MSC Palermo is going on to the Kiwi Service as a replacement for MSC Hobart.

MSC Anafi was going to come on to the Capricorn Service, and that was changed to the Kiwi Service, but then didn't come this way at all.

OOCL New Zealand will replace OOCL Melbourne on the Asia run to Singapore and Port Klang. She has twice the container capacity at 4500 teu. Interesting to see if the other lines follow suit.

According to an announcement from one of the partners involved in the NZX Service, the OOCL New Zealand will only be a temporary replacement.

At 4578 TEU she would be the second largest container ship to visit New Zealand, and her capacity far exceeds other vessels on that service, so maybe she is catering for seasonal demands.

OOCL are also providing extra loaders and have the El Zorro (ex New Zealand Star) loading Auckland and Napier.

I also believe that they also have a second vessel scheduled.

Swire Shipping have announced changes to their Trans Tasman and South East Asian services.

The chartered Pacific Chief and Tasman Chief will be off hired in May and replaced by Tasman Endeavour and Tasman Provider which are currently on the South East Asia sevice.

In turn, the Tasman Endeavour and Tasman Provider will be replaced by two B170 type vessels.

Also of interest, the Pacific Harmony will revert to Coral Chief and join the Australia-PNG Service.

Also the Natalie Schulte replaces the Cap Palmerston in May.
It seems the PNW String are all upsizing to vessels in the c2500 teu class.

The Sofrana Tourville is to be replaced by a new vessel that will take the same name. The old vessel will be renamed Sylvette for her final voyage 140 and will then head to China after discharge in the Pacific Islands. The new vessel will take over on 6th June in Brisbane. She was built in Korea in 2009 as Avra (IMO 9408372) and is GRT 9850 and DWT 12700. She has a capacity of 1037 teus incl. 180 reefer plugs. She also has three 40 ton cranes.

It seems Pacifica has finally added Wellington to it's weekly run. The Spirit of Endurance will be making her maiden voyage on Monday.

Maybe that is to make up for the sale of the Kent.

Interesting to see your posting of the Kent with her new name of Ken.

I think you may be right, I was reading somewhere that the trade was not economical anymore but the Monte Stello would offer a Nelson-Wellington trade once a week to compensate.

The Ken was sold to the US based Exim company but is off to the Indian coast for beaking. As this ferry has been sailing the NZ coast for the last 9 years she is not ISPS compliant so the new owners are working on her while in port to get her up to a satafactory standard. Interestingly the Indian crew flown over to take the ship could not provide the appropriate documentaion for the internatinal voyage so Martime NZ has halted the inspection. Once she leaves Welington she will make a brief stop over in Western Australia for bunkers then continue to her final resting ground.
