ex NORASIA ships

Hi,

could anyone explain the purpose and idea of building this serie(MSC ASLI i guess is one of them)? Why such a design, why those strange hull lines?

Hello
The ships had been build for the Transatlantic service from Norasia  Five ships was build by HDW in Germany and five more in China. The Design idea about this ships was on one side to build extraordinary ships, which have smallest  resistance  against wind and waves.
The hull was designed by an office which originally build fast sailing yachts.
to make it short: The whole thing ended up in desaster. Norasia lost a lot of money and was sold (I am not sure but I think to P.Doehle) due to bankrupcy.
All ships had big problems with the Gear box (I think it was 2001 or 2002 when 8 of the vessels lying idle in Gibraltar). Most ships was sold to V-Ships and so much as I know most vessels get new Main Engines or was rebuild to only one gearbox.
One of my colleagues had sailed on one of this vessels  (Maiden voyage) and she told us that the whole thing (Engine) was trouble

I believe Hertford IMO 9162617 is the same design.
I was told the strange shapes were to deal with the heavy North Atlantic weather.

Hi folks,

the five ones built by HDW in Kiel, Germany were
NORASIA SAMANTHA (II) (yard no.336)
NORASIA SAVANNAH (yard no.337)
NORASIA SALOME (yard no.338)
NORASIA SHEBA (yard no.339)
NORASIA SCARLETT (yard no.340)

They were all delivered in 1998 except NORASIA SCARLETT in 1999. They nicknamed this type "Container Frigates".
The ones from China were built by Jiangnan Shipyard, Shanghai. At the moment I only know NORASIA SALWA and NORASIA SHEREEN. Both built in 2000.

There were ten ships in all - the last in this list (although not the last physically launched) was also built at Jiangnan and was Norasia Selina (9162617).
