NORWEGIAN DREAM is laid up at the Neorion shipyard on the isle of Syros, Greece.
STAR PISCES is laid  up at Penang, Malaysia.
IVORY and THE EMERALD are tied up together in Eleusis bay, Greece.

And there are quite a few more!

It seems that the cruise companies are blaming the economic situation at the moment as a reason to lay up some cruise ships, here at the Harwich International Port we had 60+ visits from cruise ships this year, for 2010 they predict 30 visits but in 2011 it is predicted that we will have 100+ visits so I think for the next couple of years we will see a lot of cruise ships laid up.

Isn't ATLANTIC STAR laid up at Marseille instead of Genoa? By the way, her sale (likely to Paris Katsoufis, known for the the MONA LISA and THE TOPAZ) is still not finalised.

I made a mistake: STAR PISCES is laid up at Port Klang, not Penang.

By the way, I read on another forum that the lovely DALMACIJA is no longer laid up, but that she left Rijeka on November 6th bound for Pakistan. As Pakistan is not known for scrapping passenger ships, I think we will see her end up in either Alang or Chittagong.

I think the new requirments coming into effect next year, will spell the end to a lot of older vessels, already seen with retirement of the QE2, Saga Rose, Dulos makes you wonder what the next few months has in store for ships like the Funchal?

Hi Glenn,

The FUNCHAL is currently being upgraded so she can serve past 2010. Same goes for her fleetmates ARION, PRINCESS DAPHNE, PRINCESS DANAE and ATHENA (did I miss any?)

Brgds.

Why is Star Pisces laid up? She was successful in Hong Kong. :-(

Good to hear about the Classic International Cruises Fleet.  Athena is due to make a couple of visits to Tasmnian ports in January.

SS UNITED STATES remains moored in Philadelphia, as she has been since 1996.  Part of NCL's fleet, they abandoned plans to restore her to service in Hawaii under their NCL America brand and continue to look for a buyer.  The last time she carried passengers was 1969.

The UNITED STATES still holds the Blue Riband for fastest westbound Atlantic Crossing, and the vessel is listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
