MS Finnmarken goes to Australia
« on: November 03, 2009, 06:13:58 AM »
Some News from the norwegian company Hurtigruten. A australian company chartered the MS Finnmarken for 18 months with an option of another 18 months. On her homeroute she will be replaced by the Nordlys. HERE is the News in "norsk".

I'm interested, what you all think about this more efficient way to run a ship.

Best regards
Stefan

Well, it is quite obvious that Finnmarken will earn a lot more money for her Owners when being used as a Hotel-ship for the Gorgon project, than as a coastal Ferry in Norway.
A total mount of about 105 Million Euros was reported for the 18 months, however not for the Finnmarken alone, but together with a PSV .
Knowing the relatively low market rates for a PSV at the moment, the "FM"
will make a good buck per day.

Thanks for your comment.

I hope there will be some shipspotters along her way to Australia.
I can't wait to see pictures of her from "Down Under"!

Maybe a translation is in order?

"Hurtigruten has chartered out the MS Finnmarken as a hotel ship in Australia for the next 18 months. The ship will be replaced by the MS Nordlys in the period from november 8 2009 to april 1 2010. After april 1, the ship will be replaced by the ms Nordnorge. Both the Nordlys and the Nordnorge are modern ships with the same comfort and service as the Finnmarken. All customers who have booked a trip on the Finnmarken will be contacted by Hurtigruten with information regarding the change of ships."

Here we go... I found some shots of her in her new colors. Sad look in my opinion. Also notice the white pipe and the black hose at the aft.

Here, here and here.

Hi Ian,

Good to have an "inside" source! FINNMARKEN had a rather serious a few weeks ago, believe she was holed. Is everything fixed now?

Cheers,
Ralph

Hi,
I have been working a lot on ferries and cargoships in scandinavia. Next year Im going to move to Australia to continue my architecture studies and are thinking about working on Finnmarken during holidays. Do you now who I should contact? I would really appreciate your help!

Sorry to say Stephan, but I think you missed many messages on Hurtigruten between 2009 and 2010!
Please, have a look to all messages between the data you mentioned!
