Hi Brain,

The old man wasn't particularly interested.  Spent most of the time down below.  Not good :((

Anyway we got her in reasonably well and that's all that matters.

Alan

Looked a tricky job ,getting her lined up for passing the fish quay then taking the Brighams bend.

It looks like they will be offloading the dredger tommorrow as the barge is due to sail on Friday.

Does anyone know if today's Eide Barge 33 is the same as the one we got on the Tyne in 2006? - See photo: http://www.tyneships.co.uk/phpfiles/bigships.php5?ref=1271&button=Go
I suspect it may be a rebuild job on the same barge but not at all sure.

Cheers.

Richard.

Hi Richard,

I think its the same barge as the IMO on your site (8977948) - according to Google - matches upto Eide Barge 32, not 33. But if you search it on shipspotting.com it comes up with Eide Barge 33!.

And just to add more to the mix, Xvas has her down as 32, with a photo of the 33. So it surely must have had the name changed after the conversion work?

All the best

Hi Richard

One and the same - albeit lengthened, widened and converted into a  submersible deck cargo barge in China:

Full engineering for the conversion of a general deck cargo barge (93.726m x  27.432m x 6.096m) to a lengthened and widened submersible barge (109.7m x 45m x 6.096m) with a maximum submersion depth of 20m.

IMO of barge is 8977948

Originally built: 1993-11 Kvaerner Masa-Yards Inc - Turku Yard/hull No.: 1329 (Finland)

Anyone know if there was there anything else on the barge besides the Vesalius? A couple of workboats seem to have turned up on RSQ - DN26 &53.

Hi Richard

Yes, saw that on AIS myself and wondered if one of the pings was from the Amber Rose. Surprised if small workboats are operating AIS, but perhaps someone will know   :-)

There was a small tug and a pontoon tpye workboat , like the MaggieM on the barge , but there was also a hell of a lot of floating pipeline sections .Theses sections I beleve have been joined together over the last couple of days in preparatiuon for the dedging. Look at the dredgers size on ais , it is a huge square thing , maybe deliberate as when the work commences the river will be more or less blocked and also the small helper vessels will need to be "seen" also.

More info on my links I posted on the link up above merlins post:--

A couple of new shots on here :-

http://forum.shipais.com/index.php?showtopic=5186&st=56

Dredge cutter was well tangled up with old anchor and mooring chains.

Hi Brian

I was down on the North side this morning to see if there are any spots top get a shot of her, but none, looks like the South side is the better option.

I'll bet she dredges up some 'interesting stuff' down there after hundreds of years industrialisation.

Hi Steve ,
There is 2 places to get a shot
1 ) is next to the pedestrain tunnel entrance .
2) is in front of the big round tank that belongs to Northumbria water, there is a small road between the cemex plant and the water tank ,there is parking down there so you dont have to walk far.

Put this in google maps :-

Hi Brian

Tried down at the Pedestrian Tunnel and there are too many obstacles in the way to get a decent shot. Many of the 'roads' shown on the map no longer exist and others are not open to the public - as I say, probably more opportunities on the South side.

This is all for the South side .
