I can confirm that the Cala Portofino, Positano and Ponente were all sold by PLANTATION KEY PTE LTD in September 2008 so if she follows the same pattern as the other 2 ships then its highly likely she will go into lay up.

Ships in the Fal. The 'Autocarrier' is off Tolverne alongside the 'Windsor Castle' (ex Northern Lightship tender) Best place to photograph the two is on the beach/pontoon at Tolverne) The 'Autoline and the 'Pietri Glory' are moored stern to stern just above the King Harry Ferry; best place for photographs is from the Ferry while crossing the river. Hope to publish photos in the New Year. Will advise any further arrivals.

Received news this morning that Coastal Bulk Shipping have ceased trading due to the adverse effects of the economic downturn and poor bulk market. As mentioned in other posts most if not all of the fleet are now layed up in the Thames region. These vessels used to be regular traders on the Humber and Trent but I hadn't seen sight of any of them for some time and now the reason is all too apparent. Unfortunately I don't think they will be the only short sea operators to be put out of business by the current downturn.

Reefers PIETARI CLIFF AND PIETARI BRIGHT arrived off Falmouth this afternoon, although there is no mention of them on the current Falmouth Harbour Commissioners Shipping Movements. As PIETARI GLORY is already laid up above King Harry ferry, it doesn't take the Brain of Britain to conclude where they are going!

Addition to the Sierra Nevada Highway, anchored at the Nab Anchorage since 21 December, I see the Western Highway has now joined her at the same anchorage.
I also note Alexander Kuprin is anchored off the South West coast of the Isle of Wight "awaiting orders"

It is beginning to take on the look of a family reunion off our coast here;
This morning (and since posting the last comment), Triton Highway is now "parked" about 8 miles south of Selsey Bill. It is showing Southampton as destination but it doesn't appear on the VTS schedule site.

Does anyone know how long these car carriers can stay in the Nab area  ? I belive there is argiment that if a ship remains beyond a certain period it ceases to be "anchoring in the course of navigation" and then become moored and requires additional permission and it becomes chargeable as mooring.

It is interesting the bulk carriers RUTLAND, DAPHNE, BW ARCTIC, BERGE ATLANTIC and NORD STEEL joined on 23/12 by the oil tanker OLIVIA are not currently showing on AIS in Lyme Bay. I wonder if they are still there and if the AIS transmitters are allowed to be swithced off if idle ?

Not sure about definitions of timings of anchorages, but we have had tankers at both Nab and St. Helens Anchorages for upwards of a week (not very often for that long, but often 4 days or so)

As for Kelvin's comment about Soton VTS, they havn't updated the 'ships sailed' since 22nd, so don't believe that if it is not on the list it ain't coming in.  They also gave Minerva Ellie as coming in from Salerno whilst in fact she came from Hound Point - that's the third error in a week regarding tankers ports of origin.   Difficult to understand how they can give Salerno when she clearly came in from 'up North'

Maybe they have not been updating the "ships sailed" but they are maintaining the arrivals & departures schedules.
In fact, they are now showing the Astro Lyra as 21:50 26th.
No movement for the Triton Highway though; although the Hercules Highway is due in and out on Saturday

Thanks for update it would be interesting to know how long they can remain at anchor outside port-limits eg in Lyme Bay or Falmouth Bay without the Crown Estate or Duchy of Cornwall etc coming along and wanting to charge the owners for mooring ?. It seems, as with cars,  that the free parking lots will fill up first. Perhaps they just have to go out and come back in again to avoid it.

In case we are not seeing the full picture, ie the situatuation may be worse than it is, it would be interesting to know if ships can lawfully switch off their AIS system when anchored as opposed to moored or laid up if anyone knows ?

The ships in Lyme Bay that you mentioned in an earlier post are still there and still transmitting AIS;
All in a fairly small area are:
BW Arctic; Rutland; Daphne; Berge Atlantic & Nord Steel
Oliva is anchored further out.
The tanker Longchamp is also anchored off Exmouth.

2 sister ships are currently "parked" off Falmouth; Adventure II and Challenger II have been there a few days now.
