"night time photography of a ship moving is never going to happen (unfortunately)."

Not entirely true!! ;)

I was hoping to make her leaving the Forth but might end up driving down to the Tyne instead! Get some night time shots ;)

I HAVE TO PHOTOGRAPH HER before she is made into a fancy retail space.. :)

Hi Bruce

If you need any tips as to good vantage points on the Tyne just shout.

So if someone could post a link to a ship travelling at 6-8 knots in the pitch dark, then i will be well impressed

Hi Brian

I see her latest EST for arrival is 03.59 - I certainly won't be getting up at that time in the morning  :-o

Hi Brian

I see her AIS is showing an ETA in the Port of Tyne at 07.00 - fingers crossed for that being the time rather than 03.59!

Hi All

Confirmed as a 07.00 arrival at the Tyne Piers (FIRM) - a little birdie tells me that a decision will then be made between the Ships Captain and the Tyne Pilot as to whether the conditions are right for an entry - has to be more or less 'perfect' so that there are no embarrassing accidents   :-o
Not sure if there will be enough light at 07.00 for any decent photographs - time will tell, fingers crossed and all of that sort of things.

I booked online to go out on a boat tour to get a close look at QE2 on the Forth and left work in Glenrothes early to get to South Queensferry on time.  Events conspired against me and my trip turned out like the plot from the John Cleese film

Hi Billy

I'll bet that had your heart thumping and a bead of sweat on your brow  :-o

As at the time of writing (06.20) the QE2 is off the Tyne, wind doesn't seem to be too bad but its still pitch black outside.

Hi Billy

A good story.  Nothing worse than when everything seems to be going against you. The thing is you can now tell the story to your family fpor a long time to come.
Glad everything worked out well in the end.

I've just been to see QE2 in the Tyne.  She looks good.  Reminds me when my wife and I sailed on her to New York.  We shall have to see her leave this evening
regards Glencairn :-) :pint:

What a good turn out tonight to see the QE2 leave , from were I was there must have been a few thousand people out tonight. It was a good ending to what was a very busy day for the Tyne, I think there was about 27 movements in total , which might not seem a lot but when the average on the Tyne is about 12 moveents a day it was quite busy.

Regards

PS cant wait to see some night shots , thou I did not bother myself:)

I was down by the compound where Northern Producer is moored and by the Customs House. I was really surprised how the weather was for her visit.

I really wanted to get up there to see her come in this morning, but would of also liked to have seen her depart for the last time.

While at work this afternoon, I was chatting to one of the passengers who has enjoyed the cruise and is looking forward to the rest of the trip. I did ask him if he could ask the Captain, if he could delay till day light QE2's passage by Hartlepool and bring her close in. We both knew what the answer would of been.

Im just downloading my pics from today.
