Eurodam Headed for the Tyne

Hi All

One for the diaries of those on Tyneside - story courtesy of http://www.shieldsgazette.com/news/New-ship-will-cruise-into.4233037.jp

A NEW ship will visit South Tyneside during her maiden voyage, underlining Port of Tyne's booming cruise business. The port will welcome the Eurodam, Holland America's newest cruise ship, on July 11.

The vessel will receive a warm regional welcome, including traditional food and drink, while passengers will be greeted to the tune of the Northumbrian Pipes, played by Richard Butler, the Duke of Northumberland's piper.

This is the third time this year that Holland America, one of the world's premier cruise lines, has chosen to visit the North East of England.

Port of Tyne is one of only five UK ports capable of accommodating vessels the size of the Eurodam, at its purpose-built cruise facility in North Shields.

Hi Steve
She's a fair size this one, but will not win the queens award for design,
A floating block of flats comes to mind!

Regards
Mike :-)

Looking forward to seeing her  Friday 11th July. Saw Prinsendam in the Tyne today, 5th July. I like the smart appearance.
regards Glencairn :-) :pint:

If it's as impressive as QM2 and Queen Victoria, an impressive block of flats
regards Glencairn :-) :pint:

Hi David

Yes, Prinsendam is a nice looking vessel but I did notice that her fare paying customers were more interested in either having their kip or breakfast than coming out onto the deck or their many balconies. I cannot understand why this is - I was always up at the crack of dawn to see the new port of call.

Anyway just a shame that the weather and light conditions were not conducive today for both her arrival and departure.

I think the best looking cruise ship coming into the Tyne is the Saga Ruby.

then we also have the QE2 coming back before she goes off to get sandblasted in the gulf

Hi John

It came into the Port of Tyne and berthed at the Northumbrian Quay - Royal Quays, North Shields. Not the 'prettiest' of Ships but the size of her is the 'WoW facor

Hope this helps.
