Hi all

I see no problem with the black hulls being replaced by the Blue. PONL should be happy to be part of the Maersk Group, even though the names and brands are fading.

Renaming of vessels are a norm in the maritime industry and unfortunately, who knows what would have happend with PONL in the future if a successful company such as A.P Moller never came along

Jumaine :-P

Jumaine,
I have to disagree with you when you say P&ONL should be happy to be part of the Maersk group.

Firstly P&ONL are not part of the maersk group as they dont exist, it was a take over and not merger which means that the (UK) & the netherlands no longer have a global leader in liner shipping.

The P&O & Nedlloyd names have very strong histories in their respective countires and around the world and this is now lost for ever, even though the nedlloyd name is being kept on some of the vessels.

I dont dislike maersk line I very much enjoying seeing their vessels in southampton and i am very interested in the company and admire how successfull they are, but having worked for P&ONL for many years and having seen many friends lose their jobs i was very upset when the take over happend even though it had been on the cards for some time.

I do believe that P&ONL was poorly managed, and was given up far to easily in my opinion the management seemed more interested in short term gains for sharholders )myself being one) rather than growing the company, only a few years ago there were rumours of P&ONL buying Hapag Lloyd.

Their are now rumours of maersk buying Hapag Lloyd and i for one hope this doesnt happen as we dint want every container vessel being blue.

So far maersk has taken over EAC,Ben Line,Sealand,Safmarine,P&ONL....hapaglloyd??...who else????

Just seen pic's on maritimematters.com of MSC's RHAPSODY in a Med port arrive as RHAPSODY and next thing she has had logo on funnel removed and now sports the name Ruby............Does any reader have any more info on this ? Also in another pic on that web site is a picture of a ship that I sailed on then known as the RUSS now called IRIS...any info would be appreciated. Many thanks Brett

Just noticed my error in judgement.......2 separate photo's of these ex Cunard sisters both in Pireaus same day and same time. Livery virtually identical bar the name and Funnel logo (blank round white spot on Ruby) so easy to confuse. later saw a close up with Ruby in the foreground and Rhapsody in the background. However I would still appreciate any news on the IRIS (Ex Russ ???)
Thanks
