Hello,

I`m new in here and I just want to take the chance:

Our family owned a small coaster vessel here in Germany until my father had to quit his business due to serious health problems. The ship was sold in 1986 to somebody over in the Carribean and has completly vanished from then on.

Since my father

Wolfgang

I have looked this ship up in the 1990-91 Lloyd's Register - at that time she was owned by Nomura Enterprises Inc, and registered in Panama. The agents for these owners were W. Schoonbeek & Co., Hamburg.
This ship's LR [now IMO] number is 5224247.
Checking Equasis using this IMO number, I find that she is still listed, and is still named 'Allegro'. Her owners are now shown as being Sea Services Transport, Cristobal, Panama.

So it looks as though your father's ship may still be in existence somewhere, but tracing her actual whereabouts / trading area may be rather more difficult.

Regards
David Ford

Hello Mr. Ford-

thank you very much for tracing her down for me- I have to admit that I don`t have the slightest idea about how to do that myself!
Now this is great news, maybe someone in here even might have a picture of her how she looks today. I`ve been practically brought up on that ship and it was a hard stroke for me too when we had to sell her. I still remember when my father and I sailed her to Hamburg on our last trip, where she was to be taken over by her new owners. From that day on we became just an average german family, everything that had made us a little bit special had disappeared forever.....

However- I`ve never lost interest in anything that is related to ships and the sea, so finding this site was one of the best discoveries I`ve made on the net this year!

Best regards,
Wolfgang

Just found out that the ship has been renamed to "Belen II" - maybe that helps too?

Greetings,
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

Experience shows that the hope of reply is small, but you can try to contact the owner :
Sea Services Transport
01, Muelle 6, Cristobal, PANAMA.
Good luck,
Yvon

I am quite frequently in Cristobal, and I believe to having already seen this ship (ALLEGRO). Unfortunately conditions were never good enough to make a photo.
she is that what is locally known as a "CARTONETA" ... that means, one of these old European (mostly Dutch and German) coaster, now loaded skyhigh with cartons full of electronic articles, clothes, etc. and trading between the Cristobal Free Zone and noeghboring countries (Colombia, Central American, Dominican Republic etc.)

Will have a lookout for her.
