Hi Cawky,

I was the lad on the pilot boat, that was my brother-in-law in the pub!

The reason the ship made her approach from the north east, is that the flood tide set south across the piers.  You'll see nearly all deep drafted/large vessels making approaches from the north east, especially during a flood tide, that's just the way it's done.

Hi Alan,
I bumped into the lad I was talking to in the pub last night in The Vayager in  South Shields. I think we have had our wires crossed, his name was Stu and the person he knows drives the pilot boat, his name is John. You must now him.

Regards Cawky

Hi , I have just read this letter in the Shield Gazette,I thought it would be good to reproduce it in full:-

" As a passenger on the QE2's 40th anniversarytour,Iwould like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the great reception they gave the ship when finally docked at your very impressive Port of Tyne Docks.
As we were very late owing to the strong winds, the passengers were surprised and delighted that so many people stayed in such awful weather to see her sail into the Tyne, and looking at the photos in your newspaper brings it all back .
  Well done to all concerned.

Mrs Anne Greatwood,
Bury "

I hope everyone that watched the QE2 come in enjoyed this ladys letter.

Regards Cawky :-D  :-D  :-D
