LINER 'QE 2 ' TO VISIT THE TYNE
« on: August 12, 2007, 07:31:19 PM »
I have it on good authority the following information:

For those that may have a camera available the 'QE2' is at present due in the Tyne at 1800 hrs on Sunday September 16th 2007.
She will sail the following day Monday 17th at
approx 1800 hrs.
She will berth at Royal Quays.

This is part of her 40th Anniversary Cruise. I think she's on the Mersey prior to Tyneside and she's coming to Greenock and the Forth amongst other calls.

Hi Mike

Evidently there are all sorts of things planned, such as an illuminated red carpet projected onto the Tyne for her arrival together with a firework display

There was also an advert in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle last week for a trip on the Spirit of the Tyne (2 hours) to see the QE2 come in - priced at

I am fairly certain she will come to the Tyne from Southampton, before heading to the Forth and then Liverpool.

The Tyne Pilot is joining her in Southampton to enjoy himself for the night before bringing her in!

Hi Alan

That's a canny perk   - I wonder if they held a draw to see who would Pilot her into the Tyne. Big responsibilty mind you!

Hi Steve
They will probably close the river to any shiping of any kind during her arrival as they did with the rig arrival two weeks ago.
What everyone also forgets by September 16th it may be also getting dark at around six!
I might get out earliar to sea for a better shot depending on the weather,I only hope it's better than the 'Air show' when I photographed a lot of 'sky' due to the sea conditions.
Regards
Mike :-)

Wasnt sure, the Tyne could handle such a large ship, may not make a good picture though as it will soon be getting dark. I suppose it is worth a trip down!
Might just come. 8-)

Hi Steve,

No draw was held, just the Deputy Harbour master decided he wanted all the glory!!!  As you say though it's a big job.  Getting her around the corner a Brighams may be interesting.

I think she'll be at the piers at 1700 so we may be ok for daylight.

I bet some Teesport tugs will be needed?
Unless they are going to draft a large tug in, like Maersk Advancer?

Hi Mike

Yes I saw the Navigation Notice issued by Port of Tyne Authority when the Northern Producer came into the Tyne. That said, the Fortuna (Island Escape River Cruise) was still on the river and turned at the Piers just as the Rig came in. Couldn't quite work that one out!
