ILLEGAL HAZARDOUS GOODS SHIPMENT
« on: July 24, 2007, 05:01:08 PM »
You might recall that ZIM HAIFA, out of Keelung for Savannah, Georgia, had a serious cargo fire just before entering Panama around the end of June.  This caused serious fire damage to the vessel and over 100 containers to be destroyed.

It now seems that a large China based chemical company shipped a container declared as Calcium Cheloride (salt) which in fact contained Calcium Hypochloride, a chemical which is banned from being carried by Zim and most other major carriers.

The vessel has suffered around 3m.USD damage, plus the damaged cargo.

What some people will do!

Regards

Surely customs or harbour police should of picked up on the cargo!
I wounder what the consquences will be for the company.
