In the morning of Sep 9 a fire broke out aboard the Panama flagged container m/v 'MSC Katrina' (IMO:9467445), en route from Tema to Durban, southwest of Port Elizabeth. The ship was NUC and adrift. The Soutth African salvage tug 'SA Amandla' (IMO:7385215) was deployed from Cape Town to assist. On Sep 10 the ship was under tow of the emergency tug. On scene was severe weather, so that there were doubts whether the convoy would reach Durban on Sep 15, or might have to shelter in the area of Port Elizabeth area.

Great,, that area with those unpredictable waves in bad weather I always dreaded. But however wondered why to Durban as the entrance to Durban is not a easy one with almost always high swells. They have repair facilities there ?
NOW!!!,,,if we could get rid of the sailors,,how safe shipping would be !!!!!!!!

Hello Captain Ted, the entrance to the port was widened a few years back. But yes the swells at the entrance have not disappeared ! And the surprise sandbar now and again....Yes there are repair facilities at Durban.
