According to Equasis, 'Emma Maersk' is 170,794 GRT. If accurate, this is far in excess of any figure previously quoted.
Very strange, though, that the next vessel in the series [IMO 9321495] is quoted as being of 'just' 99,000 GRT - another example of Maersk's disinformation ?

Another point - on a ship of this size, why is her name painted in such small characters? The name is almost illegible in just about every photo I've seen.
Yet 'MAERSK LINE' is emblazoned in huge letters amidships.

We look forward to seeing pictures of her from Aarhus.

I just checked AIS Live, and she is now proceeding due south at a whopping 26 knots, midway between Sweden and Fredrikshavn, Denmark.

Hello Mats,

Thanks for all the nice info on "Emma Maersk"; all the data and particulars!!!
Very interesting. It would be very nice(but almost impossible...) for a lot of members(maybe yourself?)to be one time on board such a vessel.
They would be impressed by the dimensions; and we- pilots- are thankfull to "work" with these- marvelously fitted - ships.
In my carreer I always liked the scandinavian vessels!!!

thanks again

Yeah, she is a gorgeous ship. I replyed on a picture, saying i was tired of maersk. One guy agreed, one said i, and i quote:

If beer is boring you, never visit a brewery!

Well, yes, perhaps. What i ment was that i think its sad that they are becoming a giant such as coca cola, macdonalds and the big ones. Perhaps the smaller ones suffer. I like maersk very much myself. I even plan to work for them, when i am through with my school. Now i dont know anymore.
Maersk to me was allways magic. Now i think the macig is getting to big.

Thanks, Geert(Zappa).

You are right - it is not easy to get out there to photograph or visit that many ships with an office job like mine. However, I was a sailor and VHF operator on a naval vessel (HNoMS "Horten") for a year (mandatory military service), and do get to visit ships where we help shipowners take delivery of ships from yards. An important part of our business is casualty handling for Norwegian marine insurers, and we have been handling on-site investigations and legal work on, inter alia, the "Tricolor" and "Rocknes" casualties. The problem with being a lawyer is, of course, that strict confidentiality requirements mean we cannot share the pictures or any information.

Thanks again for your kind words - and I shall continue to contribute the way I can, which is through digging up details on vessels etc.

Have a nice day - and keep posting those great pictures!

Best regards
Mats

Hmm... Someone mentioned that it would be great to get onboard one of these ships! well I work for maersk line and have been sailing on an A-class... And I have to say that even though the size is impressive, it's just like any other container ship (just a little bigger).
