As if covid issues haven't had enough impact on carrier schedules, closure of the Napier port last week has left another headache with seven containerships now waiting to work the single container berth. About to complete her exchange, the Tianjin Bridge will be replaced by the NYK Futago, then Rio Blanco, with sister also Rio Bravo also riding the waves along with Neokastro ex Aglaia, Bomar Resilient and Kota Lembah. Loading apples is the Baltic Performer, Excelsior Bay discharges oil products, with log carriers Berge Jungfrau, IVS Merlion, and Mount Baker also to load. Several vessels sailed from the port earlier in the day - Andrea Enterprise (phosphate), Buffalo (cement) and Loch Melfort (logs), with seven more vessels due by the end of the working week. For the last 2 days various mixes of 12 vessels have been working or waiting off the port, which may be a record even comparing with the past "golden era" of the conventional cargoliner.

Capitaine Magellan is transferring from NZ - Noumea trade to Suva - Tuvalu, replacing Capitaine Wallis.

Capitaine Wallis will do a one off voyage on the NZ - Noumea trade before replacing Southern Pearl on Suva - Tuvalu, Wallis & Futuna.

Southern Pearl will then transfer to the NZ - Noumea trade.

These changes have been made to allow for the drydocking in Auckland of Capitaine Wallis and Southern Pearl.

With the hold ups on world wide shipping, Matson Line are starting a new service. It is called "China Auckland Express". They will utilise "Kamokuiki" IMO 9232979 and she will sail a monthly schedule between Auckland and Shanghai, using the general wharves, not the container terminal.

A second conventional reefer is due in NZ to load meat for the USA. The first was Lagoon Phoenix IMO 9047245 which load fruit in Nelson and meat in Tauranga before sailing for Balboa. The second is Orange Stream IMO 9795983 which is loading in Timaru and Tauranga in July. I think there will be more charters like this as exporters try and bypass the congested container terminals.

Does anyone know what Capitaine Dampier is doing after she discharges her Hong Kong imports for Maersk? She is not on any forward schedules for NPDL.
