The category of this "fishing vessel under 20 m" was arbitrarily changed to:
"Ships under Repair or Conversion." This category should only apply to
vessels that are actually being worked on and not for those being stored.

A fishing vessel, for example, out of the water should still be classified
as such, this does not change whether in or out of the water.

The photo description/category for vessels like Misty Michelle should still
be a FISHING VESSEL. At the end of June she is still waiting to be put back
into the water for her short summer fishing season.

Vessels like this spend most of their lives out of the water, and should
certainly not be classified as "under repair or conversion," as this is not
accurate.

I find it very annoying when the photo category of a photograph posted is being arbitrarily changed by Shipspotting to basically an incorrect category.

A fishing vessel is still a fishing vessel, whether in the water or outside the water;

if and when out of the water, it should not automatically become classified as "Ship Under Repair or Conversion" when it is actually out of the water, say to be temporarily stored, in transit, or waiting to be broken up.

Example of the latter: Duncan Scott, waiting to be broken up:

this vessel certainly is NOT "Under Repair or Conversion"

and a fishing vessel like Misty Michelle up in the Canadian Arctic only has a very short
time each summer being in the water (note: photo taken in June with the bay still covered
in ice) and spends every year most of the time on land in storage, should certainly no be
classified "Under Repair or Conversion," rather just what she is: a "Fishing Vessel."

You are quite right Dirk and I PM'd you confirming that in January (and no Admin expressed a different view when I asked at the time).
You have had every opportunity to put these photos in the right category since then and I am not aware of any such changes made recently.

I will be clear.  It is Admin responsibility to move photos when they are in a clearly wrong type category or subcategory (eg type of ship, year or size bracket), and unfortunately that has to be done all too often.  And sometimes photos are moved in order to avoid deletion - for example, in Ships under Repair we allow obstructions where they are relevant to a repair yard.

However in some cases, members have a choice between the normal ship type category or a specialised one - for example scrapyard, casualty, repair, construction.  Provided the image meets the appropriate site standards (especially whole-ship and obstruction) then a member is free to choose which category to select.
